Services for Henry S. Davenport Jr., 88, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Jeff Cover officiating. Burial will follow in the New Addition Annex Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Davenport died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999 at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Palestine on September 4, 1911, to Henry Swanson and Elizabeth Jackson Davenport Sr.
Mr. Davenport was a lifetime resident of Palestine and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II as a chief petty officer, was the owner of Davenport Lumber Company and served as a director of the East Texas National Bank. He graduated from Palestine High School and attended New Mexico Military Institute and the University of Texas at Austin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Dilley Davenport; and by a sister, Louise Davenport Williams.
Mr. Davenport is survived by a son, Henry S. Davenport III; daughters, Elizabeth Dilley Davenport, Virginia Jackson Davenport, and Jean Campbell Davenport Herrington; and two grandsons.
Pallbearers will be Jay Herrington, Steve Herrington, Edward Herrington, Newell Kane, Henry Jenkins, Bill Campbell, Danny Dean and Raben Bolton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lester Hamilton, Edward Swift, Reagan Ferguson, Bill Lively, Charles Mosley and Mack Knowles.
