Services for Eleanor Tilley Adcox, 93, of Palestine will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with Ross Bryant officiating. Burial will be in the New Addition Annex Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mrs. Adcox died Saturday in a local hospital.
She was born October 25, 1910 in Jacksonville to Elmore Francis Tilley and Maud Wallace Tilley.
Mrs. Adcox moved to Palestine at the age of 2. She became a member of the First Baptist Church and remained a member for her entire life. She was the church’s organist for 59 years and also played the organ for many funerals in Palestine. She graduated from Palestine High School in 1926 at the age of 16, attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville for two years, and then transferred to Texas Woman’s University where she graduated with honors in 1930 with a Bachelor in Art. She received her Master’s in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. She taught school in Corsicana, Woodville and Palestine. She retired in 1977. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Guion Music Club.
Mrs. Adcox was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Charles Haskell Adcox, in 1968.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Clay Lockett of Palestine; grandchildren, Nancy Tool and David Lockett; and great-grandchild, Lucas Brooks Tool.
Pallbearers will be Gary Closkey, Larry Robison, David Lockett, Stephen Mathews, George McIntyre and Brian Tool.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Organ Fund or the Handbell Fund.
