Ima Lucile Sutton Boyd 1926

Lucile Sutton Boyd passed away on Saturday November 19, 2005 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was an independent lady with an indomitable spirit. She was much loved and admired by her family and those who knew her. She will be sorely missed.
Our mother was born July 1, 1908, in Cayuga, Texas to Huey James and Sarah Lucile Johnson Sutton. She married Marion Lee Boyd, a prominent, much admired business man and civic leader on August 13, 1927. Her husband, parents, sisters, Rachel Saxton and Margaret Reed, a brother, Miles C. Sutton, son-in-law Tucker K. Royall, and a great-granddaughter Elizabeth Anne Worsham preceded her in death.
Lucile was the ladies’ golf champion at Meadowbrook Country Club many times. During the ‘30s and ‘40s she competed in the Central Texas Golf Association and played against many ladies who became professionals. She always come home with a trophy. She was an avid fisherman and was featured in a Texas Sporting Journal story in the spring 2004 edition. Lucile was a brilliant bridge player and enjoyed beating her caregivers at dominoes up until two weeks before her death. Traveling with friends was a special pleasure for her.
She was a charter member of the Harvey Woman’s Club, The Reading Club and maintained her membership of over 60 years in the Pine Lodge Club. She was one of the oldest living members of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters Ann Boyd Royall Maffitt and husband Ted, Marion Boyd Baker and husband Rhodes of Dallas and stepdaughter Billie Louise Hudspeth of Lakeway. Her grandchildren are Tucker Boyd Royall, Rebecca Royall, Frances Royall Alexander, Elizabeth Baker Lawson, Katherine Baker Worsham, Rhodes S. Baker IV, and William J. Hudspeth Jr. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Tucker, Andrew and Nathan Royall, Royall and Lucy Sidford, Rebecca, Joe, and Grace Worsham, Caroline and Rhodes Baker V and Ben and Harry Lawson and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers for their untiring faithfulness and love over the last seven years: Frankie Lewis, Fay Mosley, Aszlean and James Taylor, Sudie Hubbard, Deena Ricard, Elmer Jones, Mary Rabb, Voida Reed and Beatrice Brown; the Home Health Service nursing staff, especially Carla Sheridan and Wanda Lambright; and the special care given by Dr. Michael Gorby over the last few weeks. We would like to thank the Reverend Sam Boyd for his weekly visits and spiritual guidance.
Pallbearers will be Ted Maffitt, Tucker Boyd Royall, Tucker Boyd Royall Jr., Andrew R. Royall, Nathan K. Royall, Robert Alexander, Rhodes S. Baker III, Rhodes S. Baker IV, Joseph I. Worsham II, and William J. Hudspeth Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Lawson, Charles C. Davis Jr. and C.G. Joyce Jr.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the Palestine New Addition City Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory with the Reverends David Price and Samuel L. Boyd officiating. If desired, memorials may be sent to the Palestine YMCA, the First Baptist Church, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice.
