Edith Eilenberger Johnson Imhoff 1926 Valedictorian

Edith Eilenberger Johnson Imhoff, died on Sunday, September 12, 1999 in Houston. Edith, the daughter of Anna and F.H. Eilenberger, was born on May 2, 1908 in Palestine, Texas.
She was named Valedictorian of Palestine High School’s Class of 1926. Edith later graduated from the University of Texas in 1930 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.
She taught English in the Port Arthur school system and was a member of Port Arthur’s Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, the Reading Club, the Service League, and then later served as President of the Women’s Association of First Presbyterian Church and was active on the Presbytery level. Edith taught Adult Bible study for many years and was the church librarian.
Edith moved to the Hallmark Retirement Community in 1985 and became the President of the Residents Association two years later.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Louis B. Johnson and Willard E.Imhoff.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Katherine Johnson Phares Moore; son, Frederick Louis Johnson; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and many friends.
Friends are invited for visitation with the family from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 15, 1999 at The Settegast-Kopf Funeral Directors, 3320 Kirby Drive.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 16, 1999 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, Texas with Rev. Mike Cole officiating. For those desiring, memorials may be made in Edith’s memory to The Shriner’s Cripple Children’s Hospital, 6977 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77030 or to the charity of your choice.
