Services for Mary Catherine Davis, 97, of Palestine will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lester Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Prairie Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
Mrs. Davis died Tuesday in Austin. She was born December 17, 1907 in the Brushy Creek community to Jack Cleveland and Sallie Eudell Rogers Cely.
Mrs. Davis was a school teacher. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Harvey Women’s Club.
“Mary Catherine (Nanny) modeled a Christian life for her children, grandchildren, and her many friends and relatives. She was always ready to welcome others into her home and to help those with special needs. Her quiet spirit and positive attitude affected all those around her, and those she served and who served her were like family. Nanny had faithful confidence that Jesus Christ was her personal Savior and would welcome her into her heavenly home to celebrate with her husband, relatives and many friends there and many more to come.”
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, C.C. Davis, in 1961; and two brothers, Tom Rogers Cely and Jack C. Cely Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Rogstad and husband Tom of Austin; sons, Charles C. Davis and wife Martha of Palestine, Jack Davis and wife George Ann of Emerald Bay; 10 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Cliff Davis, Charles Davis IV, John Nichols, Austin Nichols, Kimber Olsen, John Rogstad, Mark Rogstad, Will Rogstad and Matt Davis.
Condolence calls will be received from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church 422 S. Magnolia, Palestine, Texas 75801, Mound Prairie Cemetery, or a charity of choice.
